Education is the process of man making and Character building.

Swami Vivekanand

The NEP 2020 is an overhaul of the Indian Education System. This policy tends to integrate the Indian Education System with global patterns, so as to enhance thinking skills and instill confidence and national pride among the youth.

The policy has been introduced to cater to the 21st century and replaces the 34-year-old policy of 1986.

The United Nations had an agenda aiming toward 2030 with the motto of SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT, keeping in mind the motto India had to introduce this policy which will transform India into a vibrant global knowledge superpower which will meet the educational needs of emerging India. The current challenges being faced by the present educational system are access, equity, quality, affordability, and accountability. By implementing the NEP, it will address the challenges and will make the Indian Education System globally relevant and competent. To achieve certain essential national level goals, the need of the hour was to introduce 'a unified, robust national policy on education for transformational reform in schools and higher education system of our country. By implementing the NEP 2020, all these challenges are being addressed making the Indian Education System more relevant and competent globally. However, the success of this policy will depend on how the center and states governments creates a support system for its implementation.

This will also provide employability and entrepreneurial skills including creativity and innovation so as to enable the youth to be self-supportive which indirectly will contribute to the nation's socioeconomic development them. This will also reflect on the development of social and life skills including values and ethics and shaping an intellectually strong youth power with liberal thought which will lead to a harmonious and peaceful society and take the country to the next level of development.

The National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) reforms all levels of educations from preschool to higher education and research.

It includes the following:

  1. School education
  2. Higher education
  3. Teacher education
  4. Professional education
  5. Vocational education
  6. Technology in education
  7. National Research Foundation
  8. Promotion of Indian languages
  9. Higher Education Commission of India
  10. Adult education and lifelong learning.

Leaving behind other indexes, the main aim is to focus on research output publications, India is at 4% of total world output and Patents registered are at 0.3%. in addition to this no Indian university finds a global ranking, so introduction of a strong National Education Policy was imperative and needed urgently to to improve the educational achievements of the country.
